PHIPA Foundation Training
The link found below is a self-directed training presentation (with audio), which outlines the fundamental concepts of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA). Privacy training is an important area for improving patient confidence in the health care system, as patients need assurance knowing their Personal Health Information (PHI) is kept confidential and is only used to provide them with the best possible care. There are many clinicians, staff and volunteers who a play a role in the “circle of care” and they become privy to a patient’s PHI. Providing these people with a better understanding of the requirements of PHIPA legislation is the goal of this self-directed PHIPA training presentation.
The presentation is divided into sections describing:
- Privacy Concepts
- PHIPA Terminology
- Collection, Use and Disclosure of PHI
- Privacy Breaches
- The Role of Privacy Officers
Because privacy training is so important across all healthcare sectors, having a “self-directed” module available on the Internet improves our chances of having everyone involved in health care within our region, receive some meaningful privacy training. This training presentation was created by MD+A Health Solutions, in consultation with the Health Service Providers of the South East LHIN, over a series of Privacy Workshops which were held through the winter of 2015/16, and led by the South East LHIN. The South East LHIN is excited to be a part of the solution to expand the privacy knowledge of those involved in health care in our region.
